Signed late 19thC Cylinder Desk after a Model by J-F Oeben

A very fine Louis XV/XVI Transitional style gilt bronze mounted tulipwood and amaranth cylinder desk by L. Cueunieres after models by Jean-Francois Oeben (French 1721-1763). The underside is stamped four times L. Cueunieres Jne Ebieniste, some bronze mounts are inscribed LC on the back. The centre drawer is stamped Edwards & Roberts with an affixed enameled plaque ‘Edwards & Robers/Wardour St. 126, PIccadilly 532 Oxford St. London; this being the retailer of the desk.
L. Cueunieres was active in Paris from 1870 and he worked for among others L’Escalier de Cristal. His stand at the Paris Exposition Internationale Universelle of 1900 which included two cylinder desks (this may be one of them), won him a silver medal.
