Set of Four French Directoire Period Painted Side Chairs


A fine set of four late 18thC period Directoire painted side chairs. Each chair has a different carved back splat painted black and in the full neo-classic taste including a dolphin, flambeau, garland etc. The top of the chair rail is decorated in carved vitruvian scrolls. The chairs are supported on two turned front legs and two curved back legs. It is believed that the paint colouring is original to the chairs. Made in France in the late 18thC, ie. circa 1790.
