Period Louis XVI Corner Chair
A rare and unusual carved and gilt corner chair of the Louis XVI period. The frame is totally carved with scroll work, rosettes, ribbons, with a decorative ‘acorn’ at the back corner of the chair. The gilding on the chair is original but suffers from a fair degree of peeling. The upholstery is relatively new yellow/gold silk damask with a colourful floral green stripe. Upon examination of the underside it appears that the frame construction includes dowling, which was the preferred method of assemblage at the time. Made in France circa 1790.
