Period Louis XVI Giltwood Corner Chair

A rare and unusual carved and gilt corner chair of the Louis XVI period. The frame is totally carved with scroll work, rosettes, ribbons, with a decorative ‘acorn’ at the back corner of the chair. The gilding on the chair is original. The upholstery is relatively new yellow/gold silk damask with a colourful floral green stripe. The frame construction includes dowling, which was the preferred method of assemblage at the time. Made in France circa 1790.
