Pair of Meiji Period Japanese Bronze Lamps
A pair of Japanese patinated bronze vases/urns. The body of the urn is richly decorated in the round with a finely chased dragon in very high relief. The background shows waves/clouds which are partially gilded. They have a gilded bronze collar and sit on a round gilded bronze base. Many of these oriental bronzes (and porcelains) were exported to France where they were further decorated with gilded bronze and then exported throughout Europe and around the world. The Meiji period in Japan began after 1868 and lasted until 1912. The urns were most likely electrified into lamps in the 20thC. Japan/France circa 1900.
