Pair of 19thC French Signed Carved Walnut Hunting Gun Racks
A highly rare and most unusual pair of carved walnut gun racks, each with a different carved bird at the bottom, one being a hawk or eagle with spread wings and talons along the bottom; the second bird looking more like an angry owl, also with spread wings and talons along the bottom. The decoration of the backs of each rack resembles tied ‘fabric’ and the top of each is carved differently, one with acorns and oak leaves, the other with ribbons/garlands. Each rack has two sets of gun/rifle hangers. One is signed ‘Maurice Michon’ inv; either being the maker or the owner of the racks. Made in France likely in the last quarter of the 19thC.
