Pair of Chinese Jadeite Stone Lamps

The stone bodies of this type of interior illuminated lamp are often referred to as quartz, jadeite or even jade but are in fact of the fluorite family, a softer sone more easily carved.  The hollow urn bodies with ring handles are carved all around and have detachable tops in the form of foo dogs.  The urn sits on a carved rosewood base on a further gilded metal base.  The ability to have only the body of the lamp base lit from within can provide a beautiful warm glow.  While carved in China the stone lamps were mostly for export and were originally wired in the United States and retailed through luxury department stores.  China circa 1930.
