Mid 19thC French Aubusson Carpet
A magnificent Napoleon III Aubusson weave carpet having an unusual colour palette including two outer borders in pinks, reds, dark green, and an inner field in olive green with a central medallion of flowers and swirling borders. Given that the carpet features large palm fronds, passion flowers, and other tropical vegetation in the design, is it probable that the carpet was original woven for a client living in the tropics. The carpet was recently cleaned and had minor restorations performed in Istanbul, Turkey. French circa 1860.
