Late 17thC Boulle Cartel Clock
Grand scale Boulle cartel clock and matching plinth, the case in tortoiseshell and embellished all over with gilded bronze mounts (regilt); The medallion below the clock dial shows a centaur, (half man, half horse) carrying off a young maiden. On top of the clock is a classical winged figure playing a trumpet like instrument; the inside back of the clock case is also richly worked with tortoiseshell and brass; the gilded brass clock dial is inset with enamel Roman numerals; below the dial is an enamel cartouche with the late 17thC early 18thC French makers name Hanet. E.T.U a Paris. The movement has been replaced with an early English twin barrel movement, (one key wind), and the original key winds on the dial have been plugged.
