Grand scale boulle cartel clock and matching plinth, the case in tortoiseshell and embellished all over with gilded bronze mounts (re-gilt). The medallion below the clock dial shows a centaur (half man, half horse) carrying off a young maiden. On top of the clock is a classical winged figure playing a trumpet-like instrument; the inside back of the clock case is also richly worked with tortoiseshell and brass. The gilded brass clock dial is inset with enamel Roman numerals. Below the dial is an enamel cartouche with the late 17th century/early 18th century French makers name “Hanet; E.T.U a Paris”. The movement has been replaced with an early English twin barrel movement, (one key wind), and the original key winds on the dial have been plugged. France/England circa late 17th century.
