I9 Century Bronze Statue of a Matador Titled Prima Espada by Emile Pinedo

This may well be the finest cast bronze we are offering. Please note the matador’s delicate facial features as well as the intricate details of his costume. The artist, Emile Pinedo, is known for his commitment to quality and his use of this reddish-brown patina that is present here. It is signed, “Pinedo” and bears a French foundry mark. The bronze is titled titled “Prima Espada.” and is mounted on a rich rouge marble base.

A French sculptor of Spanish descent Emile Pinedo ( 1840- 1916) also practiced casting, a domain in which he succeeded his father in 1865. As a sculptor he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1870. His bronzes are rare, highly reputed and are of exceptional quality. Made in France circa 1880.
