Faience de Rouen Busts of Summer and Autumn
Two Faience de Rouen busts on plinths spuriously inscribed facet a Rouen 1647 and blue fleur-de-lys marks after models by Nicholas Fouquay found in the Louvre; the busts are emblematic of the Seasons, represented here Summer, the goddess Ceres in floral patterned drapery with flowers and wheat sheaves adorning their tresses, and Autumn as Bacchus crowned by grapes, each on a waisted rectangular socle. Each has it’s own original wall mounted plinth.
