Empire Gilt Bronze and Crystal Chandelier
A period French Empire basket style crystal and gilt bronze chandelier with nine candle nozzles. The chandelier has a top section decorated with crystal swags and large gilded palmettes with the body suspended with strings of graduated crystal almond shaped crystals. The gilded nozzles are on top of decorative elements attached to the central gilded corona and between each nozzle is a gilded acanthus leaf. The chandelier ends in a rounded bottom that creates the basket shape. The bottom crystal chains are attached to a gilded ring from which hang long crystal drops. A six light electrical fitting has been added to the inside bottom of the ‘basket’, otherwise the nine candle nozzles take candles. France circa 1825.
