An Oil painting of the shoreline around Capri by Matteo Sarno

An early 20th Century oil painting of a section of the coastline off  the Isle of Capri, near Naples painted in the impressionist style, showing rocky cliffs and the azure Mediterranean sea the area is famous for. The painting is titled ‘Capri’ and is signed Matteo Sarno, (1895-1957). Unfortunately other than probably being a native of Naples little to nothing is known about the life and the achievement  of the artist but he did leave behind  a wonderful portfolio of art mostly capturing  coastal images of Capri and its sister Island Ischia in the 1920’s and 1930’s before mass tourism descended to these idyllic islands off the Amalfi Coast.
