Belle Epoque Female Nude Signed De Groux
A very well executed and suggestive view from and accenting the “derriere” of female nude lying in a semi fetal position on a sheepskin rug in front of a roaring fireplace. The nude has her head pointing and looking upwards puffing contentedly on a cigarette. A cup and saucer for coffee are shown in the foreground. A jug and washbasin plus a towel set on a Napoleon III table off to one side of the fireplace plus other furnishings in the background place the scene as a late 19th century Parisian Belle Epoque salon. The painting is signed De Groux on the bottom right hand side of the canvas but without initials it is difficult to be definitive as to who the artist actually was. The period frame of he paining has now been fully restored, (not as shown).
