French Empire Clock featuring a bust of the Apollo Belvedere

$5,500.00

A fine example of a French Charles X period mantle clock circa 1830. The rectangular stepped case is made of yellow Sienna marble and is decorated on the top and bottom with patinated bronze. Atop the clock case sits a very well chased patinated bronze head of the famous Apollo Belvedere. The original marble statue is in the Vatican Museum in Rome. The patinated bronze dial with it’s original glass cover has a central gilded bronze ornament. The eight day movement has a silk string suspension system and rings the hours and halfs on a bell.
