A period Louis XVI ormolu black and white marble mantel clock made in the last quarter of the 18th century. The white enamel dial with black Arabic numerals is contained within a drum-shaped case surmounted by a biscuit classical figure of Euterpe. The case flanked by gilt bronze mounted fluted circular columns set on top of a black marble pedestal base decorated with military trophies; the whole supported on a white marble plinth on toupie feet. The dial is signed Ch. Bertrand, Horologer de L’Acadamie Royal des Sciences; original silk-string suspension system; rings the hours and halves on a bell.
