A Fine French 19th Century Empire Style Day or Alcove Bed known in French as “lit en Bateau” The bed is made of fine Cuban Mahogany and is embellished with a ormolu mounts all along the front bed rail ,head and foot boards. The bedrail is centred by a mount of Apollo in classical robes riding a horse drawn chariot. Flanking the central mount and all up the facing sides of the head and foot boards are various mounts with griffins, scrolls, rosettes laurel wreaths, acanthus leaves and other neo-classical elements emblematic of the Empire Period.
