A beautifully executed early 20th Century oil on canvas signed C.Langenbeck (1873-1943) and dated 1906 is presented in a robust carved giltwood frame. The painting shows a flotilla of boats, sailing ships and even a steam ship anchored in a harbor under a moonlit partly cloudy sky. A windmill on the distant shoreline background is indicative that the scene may have been an actual harbor in Holland or Belgium. Unfortunately, and despite the quality of this work little is known about the life and works of the artist.
