Large 19thC Louis XVI Style Giltwood Oval Mirror


A beautifully carved gilt wood framed oval mirror likely made in France circa 1840. The frame is carved with an egg and dart design alternating with convex fillets and an inner gilded beaded loop. The top the frame is decorated by a large cartouche featuring a pair of turtle doves backed by a bow, a quiver with arrows, a flaming torch, garlands, flowers and acorns. The corresponding bottom of the frame has a simpler cartouche centered around acanthus leaves bordered by roses other flowers and leaves. The frame has been regilded. The replaced mirror is backed by original wood inserts.
