A Signed Mid Century Bronzed Sculpture of Michelangelo’s Moses

An well executed copy of seated Moses holding the Commandment tablet, a hugely famous sculpture by the Italian High Renaissance artist Michelangelo. The statue is cast in a clay/plaster-like medium.
The marble original is housed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome and was commissioned in 1505 by Pope Julius II for his tomb. It depicts the biblical figure Moses with horns on his head, based on a description in chapter 34 of Exodus in the Vulgate, the Latin translation of the Bible used at that time.

The statue is signed Austin ‘Productions’ and dated 1968 on the back of the base.
