Prussian Trumeau Mirror and Painting


A rare and unique gilded wood trumeau mirror. The top half comprises a finely painted oil on canvas depicting an Imperial or Royal naval celebration possibly a coronation, with a royal barge complete with a red velvet baldachin, in the process of being rowed towards a flotilla of four three masted galleons and a steamer with their masts decorated with multicolored festoons. One of the galleons is shown firing a canon in salute. Central to the painting is an impressive turreted castle set on top of a buttressed peninsula jutting out into the harbour. Along the banks are shown hundreds of well-wishers. The bottom section of the trumeau containing a three panel mirror. Unsigned, late 19thC.
