“Saint Paul” French Empire Clock
A gilt and patinated bronze mantle clock depicting a bearded standing Saint Paul beautifully cast in patinated bronze, his left elbow resting on the gilded plinth beside a scroll; his left hand holding a gilded sword, emblematic of the saint. The plinth is decorated with a vertical rod entwined by a viper the gilded rectangular base decorated with a finely cast mount centered by a rondel showing the two Janus heads; the whole on a further stepped and decorated base. The dial features a silvered chapter ring, the twin barrel movement with its original silk-string suspension movement rings the hours and halfs on a bell.
