Pair of Large ‘Quartz’ Lamps on Decorative Bases

A relatively large pair of carved stone lamps with decorative bases. The carved stone is often referred to as Jadeite or Quartz but is in fact from the fluorite family. These lamp bases were carved in China and exported to the United States through the early to mid 20thC for wiring and then to be sold in the more fashionable upscale department stores. Most of the better examples of these lamps (like this pair), have a small light on the inside of the urn that can be lit on it’s own, or together with the normal top lighting. The body of these urns as well as the tops are very well carved and in excellent condition. The brasses on the lamps have been gilded (painted), and as a further unique and decorative element are mounted on a faux marble scagliola rectangular base. The lamps are presented in custom very unique parchment shades illustrated with Chinese Figurative motifs.
