The mahogany frames are accented with gilded bronze mounts but most strikingly the swept open arms terminate in beautifully carved gilded wood dolphins. The top of the arms joining the square backs also have a gilded wood palmette at the top. The chairs fronts are upholstered in a red and gold empire style silk fabric from the firm of Lelievre in Paris. The chair backs are in matching red velvet. Made in France circa 1820.
