Pair of Exceptional French Empire Bronze Candelabra After Thomire
$35,000.00
These are a pair of exceptional early French Empire candelabra featuring patinated bronze classically draped maidens holding aloft a gilt bronze plumed basket supporting six candle arms capped by a most unusual open winged swan finial. The whole sits on a rectangular gilt bronze base with frontal gilt bronze friezes depicting a nude Roman God Apollo riding a two horse chariot. The candelabras’ exceptional quality all point to the workshop of Pierre-Philippe Thomire, the most talented and sought after Parisian bronzier of the early 19th century, more so given that there is a very similar pair of candelabra signed Thomire located in the Chateau de Compiegne outside of Paris.
