Mystery Turtle Clock Made by the Swiss Jeweler E. Gubelin
A very interesting Mystery clock by the famous Swiss Jeweler Gubelin. A silver shallow bowl sits on a rectangular stepped black and green marble base, the perimeter of the bowl with Roman numerals. When the bowl/dish is filled with water (about 1/4″) a light weight metallic coloured turtle can float on top, his nose pointing to the time of day. The bottom rim of the silver plate is signed E. Gubelin Swiss and M18375 & 201805. The movement is incribed E114 E. Gubelin Lucerne Swiss IE JWLs> 1. A. D. J. The clock is wound through a key wind on top of the plate on which the silver dish sits. The time is set through a key wind on the lower front of the marble base. The clock would date circa 1900.
