Mid/Late 19thC Gilt Bronze Louis XV style Clock
The case of this large and impressive mantle clock is entirely of gilded bronze and represents the epitome of the Rococo revivalist style in mid/late 19thC France. Leafy scrolls entwine the entire case; a cherub sits on the top with a cup of wine in one hand and the other hand pats a crouching leopard. Midway down the case another cherub holds a wine cup; and near the bottom of the case is a mythological winged dragon. The dial comprises inset white enamel plaques with blue Roman numerals. The twin barreled movement has a silk-string suspension system ringing the hours and halfs on a bell. France circa 1875.
