Malachite Lyre Clock

$8,000.00

A fine 19th Century example of a late 18th century Louis XVI malachite lyre mantle clock with musical references. Most models of these clocks usually have white marble or ‘Sevres’ porcelain ‘frames’, malachite being an unusual and expensive option. The white enamel clock dial is supported in the middle of the lyre which is framed in a ring of paste diamonds which swings, being part of the clock’s pendulum system. The top of the clock features a large gilded Apollo sunburst. The clock has its original eight day French movement with a steel suspension system.
