Louis XV style Chinese Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Desk Clock
A finely modeled and painted figure of a recumbent Chinese (wise man)? He leans against a tobacco drum? on top of which is housed a Swiss made clock/watch movement. The Chinese porcelain figure is mounted on a finely chased and gilded bronze French rococo style base. Oriental porcelain was especially prized in France in the 18th and 19th centuries. Unmounted porcelain of various descriptions was shipped to France where gilt bronze mounts were often added for sale to wealthy patrons. Likely late 19th/early 20th century.
