Louis XVI Style Ormolu and Onyx Clock
The white onyx case of architectural form has fluted pilasters on each side of the dial and is highly decorated with the finest chased and gilded bronze mounts, incorporating quivers and arrows, cornucopiae etc. The rectangular rounded breakfront plinth base is decorated with foliated scrolls and floral ornaments, and sits on six ormolu chiseled feet. The 5 1/2 ” white enamel dial with Roman numerals bears the name of Raingo Freres, Paris, a pre-eminent bronzier and clock maker in late 19thC France. The eight day movement with steel string suspension system rings the hours and half on a bell. French circa 1880.
