Longcase Clock After Lieutaud
A fine quality Louis XV style longcase clock after Lieutaud. The case of this clock is modelled after ones made by the 18th century cabinetmaker Francois Lieutaud. The shaped oak carcass is completely veneered in kingwood, amaranth, mahogany and various other exotic woods and further decorated with fine gilded bronze mounts. The case is surmounted by a winged figure of ‘Father Time’; the whole sitting on large lions paw feet. The gilded dial with its inset white and blue enamel numerals is signed ‘Martinot a Paris’, after the 18th century clockmaker of the same name. The original movement rings the hours and half on a gong.
