Limoges Enamel Plaque ” The Deposition of Christ”
A beautifully detailed and delicate French Limoges dark blue and white Enamel plaque depicting ” The Deposition of Christ” after he was taken down from the cross and is being prepared for embalming and shrouding prior to laying Jesus down in the tomb. The plaque shows Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus holding Jesus for embalming with John the Apostle and Mary, Jesus’s Mother looking on. The plaque is unsigned and is set a craved and gilded wooden frame. The plaque is in the French Renaissance style but was likely produced in the late 19th Century. France circa 1860.
