Griotte and Terracotta Clock with Garniture

A late 19th century French griotte marble and terracotta clock with garniture. The clock and matching urn bases are of red griotte marble decorated with gilded bronzes. The urns are decorated with three gilded swans and the drum shaped clock plinth is decorated with gilt swags and a gilt bezel. The cream coloured enamel dial has arabic numerals, a steel suspension system ringing the hours and halfs on a bell. Atop the circular clock plinth rests a detachable terracotta statue of a classical nude nymph running on billowing clouds with three winged cupids trying to hold on to her after a model by Clodion.
