French Empire Mahogany and Gilt Bronze Somno ‘Night Table’

A beautifully veined mahogany bedside table (referred to as a Somno), which was a popular piece of furniture during the French Empire period. There is a single top drawer below a fixed grey black marble top, which is flanked by two turned mahogany columns with gilded capitals and bases. The central door which is decorated with a gilded bronze wreath, opens to reveal a shelved interior. The quality of the matching mahogany and the gilded mounts are of the finest quality. The somno is finished on all four sides and can therefore be placed in the centre of a room and away from walls.
