Louis XVI as Caesar
An early French Empire clock, the entirely fire gilt case depicts a standing figure of Louis XVI dressed as a Roman emperor (Caesar), holding a scroll in his outstretched right arm over the plinth which houses the movement. On top of the plinth is a wreath and a plumed helmut. The lower rectangular clock base has a frieze in high relief depicting a battle scene. The clock has it’s original eight day silk string suspension movement ringing the hours and halfs on a bell; the white enamel dial with roman numerals.
