Bronze Dancing Faun From Pompeii

A well cast late 19thC bronze reproduction of the Dancing Faun found during the excavations of Pompeii in the mid 18thC.  From classical mythology, the Faun is a mythical god that lived in the forest.  He is associated with the revelers from the Cult of Bacchus.  In appearance the faun is a mythical hybrid creature partly human body with goat animal characteristics like a tail and sometimes hooves.  The house where it was found was named after the statue, The House of the Faun in Pompeii, where it stood as the centerpiece of the garden.  The original statue is now in the National Museum in Naples, Italy.
