19th Century Round Napoleon III Marquetry Parlour or Salon Centre Table
This highly unusual French table has a circular top completely covered in floral marquetry. The mid/widest section of the table sits on three fluted and tapered legs joined with a lower shaped stretcher also decorated with marquetry work. The columns are decorated with gilded bronze rings at the top and bottom as well as gilded filets in the flutes. The galleried middle/top has three galleried oval ‘wells’ with detachable containers and lids and the wells are all lead lined. This would suggest that the wells could have been used for plants or for storing ice. A circular ‘tazza’ like ‘stand’ is built into the middle of the top of the table.
